Volunteer Opportunities for 2017



project help LOGISTICS/DELIVERIES

Deliveries both before and on Christmas Day include food, toys, and gifts. Includes weekday volunteering before Christmas; general questions about the church and event; day after 26th deliveries.

Make checks payable to First Congregational Church. Checks should be mailed to the First Congregational Church. Please write "BOBS" in the memo.

TURKEYS and HAMS
Please bring on Friday and Saturday, December 22 and 23, 201710:00 AM - 2:00 PM. to the kitchen
• precooked, carved turkeys
• precooked ham (we will cut if it is not precut)
• stale bread for stuffing

DESERTS
Please check back later
• wrapped plates of HOMEMADE cookies, brownies, fudge, candy - precut and ready to serve on Christmas day
• Donuts, pastries amd fruit for the tent

GIFTS
Please bring on Saturday(s), December 9 and December 16, 2017 to the stage area
• Wrapping paper, tape, gift cards, blank white mailing labels, black felt tip pens, scissors, cloth (not plastic), shopping bags
• Toiletries
• Toilet paper
• Diapers
• For Men: gloves and hats
• For Women: scarves, hats, and gloves
• For Children: hats mittens, gloves, books, toys, clean stuffed animals, coloring books, crayons, self-contained craft kits for children and teens

KITCHEN

We will need various areas covered at various times by volunteers. Shift times will range from 6 am - 6 pm and the next day as well from 10 am - noon for deliveries and final clean up. We need dishwashers and carvers. Carvers are needed to carve meat and chop veggies on December 22 and 23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

We are currently looking to fill a couple more dishwasher positions. Please contact us.

REGISTRATION

Registration volunteers will assign numbers for our guests and direct them to the sanctuary. You will also assist with any questions they may have concerning our program.

NOTE: Greeters should be 14 years of age or older. Please dress warmly as this is in the entry area and can be cold.
TIMES: Several shifts are offered: 8:00 to 10:00, 10:00 to noon, noon to 2:00 and 2:00 to 4:00 (at the end of this last shift, you will be asked to help put up table/chairs & pick up in entry way)

HOSPITALITY TENT

Hospitality tent is set up early to greet guests before the church doors open. Coffee, cocoa, donuts, various baked goods and fruit are served at the tent. Volunteers will give a warm season's greetings to our grests as well as serve the food. They should dress warmly for this outside activity.
TIMES: We need six volunteers for each two-hour shift: 7 am - 9 am, 9 am - 11 am, 11 am - 1 pm and 1 pm - 3 pm.

GREETERS

Greeters are located at the various doors and hallways throughout the church to give a warm welcome to our guests. Greeters help guests and volunteers find their way through the church, direct our guests to the sanctuary and assist them with any questions they may have concerning our program. Please dress warmly as this is in the entry area and can be cold. Greeters should be 14 years of age or older.
TIMES: Three shifts: 8:00 am - 10:00 am, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

DINING ROOM

The dining room, on Christmas Day is where so much of the spirit of Christmas can be found. We need volunteers in the dining room for a number of service opportunities.

You must be 16 years old to serve in the dining room.

TIMES:
Dining room shifts are from 10:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

EVENTS BEFORE DINNER

As guest wait to be served for dinner, we gather in the sanctuary for Christmas fun and the celebration of Jesus' birthday. There's an Advent communion service, singing, poetry, testimonials and music.

CHILDREN'S CRAFTS

Entertain youthful guests and their families in the Sanctuary as they wait for their meal.  A volunteer opportunity for your entire family to do together, especially if you know origami, macrame, card tricks or any other quiet entertainment you want to share. Crafty helpers are needed from 8:30 am - 3 pm.

HOSTS/LISTENERS

We need joyful, happy festive volunteers who love to say "Merry Christmas" as they welcome our guests into the sanctuary. Assisting family members as they wait for the dinner bell. "Be the Host/Hostess with the mostest." There are orientations at 8 AM and 10:30 A.M. and 12:30 P.M.

MINISTERS AND COUNSELORS

Come and help us counsel and listen to our guests. Join in the program activities in the sanctuary as our guests wait for dinner.

MUSIC

Music is provided on Christmas Day as guests wait for dinner in the sanctuary and also in the dining room as people enjoy their Christmas dinner. Accomplished musicians, singers and dancers are invited to participate. Most volunteer opportunities require one hour scheduled service.
TIMES: Most one-hour time slots are between 11:00am and 3:00 pm

VOLUNTEER ROOM

On Christmas Day, volunteers check in other volunteers and give them name tags. Four volunteers are needed per shift. The shift times are 7:30-10:00, 10:00-12:00, 12:00-2:00, 2:00-3:30 or close. COAT ROOM

On Christmas Day, the Coat room secures our volunteers' coats. Four volunteers are needed per shift. The shift times are 7:30-10:00, 10:00-12:00, 12:00-2:00, 2:00-4:00 or when all coats are claimed. SECURITY

We need ten volunteers per shift for Christmas day throughout the building. Some will not be needed after 3PM but others will be needed until 5:30PM.

ADULT GIFTS

giftsAfter they enjoy Christmas dinner, adult guests can go to an area where volunteers assist them in selecting a gift. We need volunteers on Wednesday, 12/21/16, to organize, prepare and wrap gifts, and volunteers on Christmas Day to meet guests and help them select gifts. Volunteers should be at least 16 years old, have an outgoing, festive spirit toward our guests and be able to follow set procedures in a small area. All gifts are donated by volunteers and area churches and organizations and include personal toiletries, socks, gloves, hats and underwear.

We also need scissors, scotch tape, holiday wrapping paper and plastic or cloth bags for 12/21/15!
